Springbok
The springbok is a medium-sized antelope found in southern and southwestern Africa. The sole member of the genus Antidorcas, the springbok is classified under the family Bovidae. It was first described by German zoologist Eberhard August Wilhelm von Zimmermann in 1780. A slender, long-legged antelope, the springbok reaches 71–86 cm at the shoulder and weighs between 27 and 42 kg. Both sexes have a light brown coat, with a white ventral area, including the underparts, inner thighs, and buttocks. The coat becomes lighter in summer. Active mainly at dawn and dusk, springbok live in herds of 20 to 40 individuals.
